I did a bit of forum maintenance this afternoon. We've upgraded to 2.3.5, and I've fixed that bug that people were experiencing when editing their Personal info from the control panel.

I've added a bunch of new arcade games, and unfortunately had to take out Cubitsu, Sonic and Moonlander, as they were broken and I could not fix them. But there are a ton new games for you to choose from!

If you see anything broken, please let me know ASAP.

The following news post derives from a decision which the current staff members of MapleTowers have been discussing all week. It involves private servers, which I am sure most of you have realised has unfortunately become a common practice amongst MapleStory players.

To sum up this news post briefly, it has been decided that Private Servers will remain a BANNED from being a topic of discussion on MapleTowers. (Although we will be lenient if they are referred to briefly, and negatively.)

In your Character Info sections, it has been decided that you cannot put private server information in it. However we are letting you enter in your private server character name, level and job; we will turn a blind eye to it. However, I reiterate - you must NOT abuse this allowance, you must NOT say it is from a private server, and your job is NOT allowed to be "GM". You also cannot mention the name of the private server, but I would have thought that be obvious by this point.


But they're legal, why this new rule?

From everything we have researched, private servers are NOT legal. Lindsay has invested a reasonable amount of time into researching this. From what we understand about MapleStory private servers, the server code was leaked initially, and all the private servers are derived from that. If this is true, then private servers are illegal no matter what. The only way that private servers are legal is if they are emulators. That is to say, they were derived from their own server code that has no connection to Wiznet, other than the fact that they use the same client to play; this is legal. Emulators take years and many talented people to create. We highly doubt MapleStory Private Servers are emulators, or else they'd be called as such.

Well NXJoe has said it's okay!

We have searched other forums, as well as the main Nexon forums, for proof of this claim. We have not been able to find it. At any rate, just because Nexon does not pursue the removal of Private Servers does not mean they are legal, or even that we would allow discussion of them. Once again, Private Servers are essentially pirated software which removes player usage from Nexon. We highly doubt Nexon is "okay" with the existence of Private Servers, and anyone who thinks that is deluding themselves.

And if we're right, you're wrong?

If eventually it turns out to be this case, then it is still a matter of our discretion. We certainly do not agree with the existence of Private Servers, though we do recognize that it is inevitable we will have members who play on them. For now, if you want to be a part of the MapleTowers community, you should respect our rules regarding this. Even if you think we're wrong, we're sure you'll agree that at least we've come to a reasonable decision, yes?

To Conclude:

• You may not discuss private servers.
• You may not name private servers.
• You may not call yourself a GM in your character info sections, or mention if it comes from a private server.
• All this also coveys to PMing. We have set up a monitor so that if you so much as mention private servers in your PM's, it will alert us and we will read it! We are mostly concerned with advertising, however, so if you're talking to someone you already know on a Private Server about said server, that's fine, within reason. =P

We will give you a week to remove the banned character information, after that we will start removing them ourselves - and issue warns to anyone who is purposely being an asshat about it.

Season 5 Begins with a Bang!

Well, as the cheering dies down from the Emerald Clan Lounge, it’s time to get on and open up Season Five for business. I’m certain that Ruby and Diamond are not going to let the wolves get this Season too, eh!

This Season has some great things to look forward to, some of which will be detailed in a moment. We ARE working on a major improvement for Maple Towers – one which will, I hope, not only provide a great service to our members, but also any player of MapleStory. But there will be more information on this improvement later in the Season as we get ready to launch it. Clan members, keep your eyes open – great CP opportunities are coming up!

We will also be focusing a bit more on advertising this summer, as we’ve sort of let it fall by the wayside over the winter. Hopefully, this will bring more people and more activity to the site, as well as many great new members to add to our collection of awesome.

Speaking of awesome…

I want everyone to congratulate Light on becoming our next Super Moderator. He’s going to be helping us (me) out on projects this summer, but unfortunately this promotion means he will have to officially leave his beloved Diamond Clan. Diamond, this is the second SMod to be promoted out of your Clan…you should be proud! Light will still continue to serve as a Maple Director and this also means that Light will be another point of contact if anyone has any forum issues/questions so that you don’t have to bug Moofey all the time…although you should still bug Moofey anyway. I do!

Along with Light, we have some other promotions…everyone please congratulate Lugin and TheShinji on joining the Mod Squad. They will continue to serve in the fine tradition of taking care of the less than desirable posts and people that may find their way to our site.

And a more sober moment…due to real life time constraints, Jinxiy has regrettably resigned from her post as Ruby Leader. She’s held the position for all four Seasons so far, our longest lasting Leader yet (it’s an exhausting position to hold!), and we’re really sad to see her go, but we understand that real life trumps all. We hope we still see you around, Lyndz, and we look forward to when you’ll have the time to hang out.

It was a tough decision on choosing her replacement, as there are some very qualified Ruby members. The admins had a tough time of it! However, we’ve decided that SoullessFire will be taking the mantle as Ruby Clan Leader, and we have great hopes for his reign of terror. So everyone, three cheers for Kevin!

And congrats to all of our staff promotions.

Contest Team had open applications a few weeks ago and I never got back to you on my decisions (mostly because I was waiting for end of Season).

It seems like it was only a few weeks ago that I was writing the end-of-Season announcement for Season 3. And yet, Season 4 was one of the longest Seasons we’ve had – mostly due to my inability to get anything done on time. XD

That being said, Season 4 was as awesome of a Season as ever, even if we were bereft of our beloved Sapphire Clan. However, this is the first Season we’ve had where all of the Clans were neck-and-neck for pretty much the entire time. And in reality, this Season was pretty much decided by a few contests. Which just goes to show…you guys should enter all of the contests.

Without further ado…let me introduce to you our Season 4 Tower Cup Champions…



Yes, the wolves performed a decisive victory after Contest Week, which just goes to show that if you work hard, you persevere. You should all be receiving a trophy () commemorating this Season very soon.

That isn’t to say that Ruby and Diamond did not give it their all – far be it, for they are within only 15 CP of each other, and both only 1000 CP behind Emerald. Each Clan did an amazingly good job this Season, and we couldn’t be prouder of all of you!

Also, our contest week extremists! I am happy to announce that AgonyMan and MaakuWiz entered ALL of the contests this time around and have received another one of these () trophies. I will also be rewarding the trophy to t3hurbsin, who entered all but one, which he was unable to enter due to computer limitations.

Hello everyone, and welcome back!

The forums have been upgraded to version 2.3.4. For the most part, you'll only notice small changes here and there. The biggest change so far is that I've installed a Points System for keeping track of individual points. Right now everyone is at 0, but I will soon be updating scores.

If you encounter ANY errors or ANYTHING strange, please let me know by this thread or by PM. Please. I don't want to have to hear about errors weeks from now.

I will be installing some new arcade games later today. But there was no reason for me to keep the boards offline to install those. So if you have any suggestions for arcade games, let me know!
