Rules are the same from the normal DN:TFG. The changes this time are with the roles. I don't mind alliances, but understand that I have made this game so that almost every role has a chance to win the game on their own or with a small, game-influenced alliance. But that doesn't mean you should go for your role win over an out-of-game alliance win. wink.gif

The game is set around the Dexter universe. If you are unfamiliar with Showtime's Dexter - let me tell you, you're missing out. It's a GREAT show. http://en.wikipedia....ter_(TV_series)

The show has influenced the roles I've assigned. So if you see an odd interaction or role power, it probably has basis in the show, or at least would make sense to the characters.

SETTING

The city of Miami has seen its fair share of serial killers – most recently, the Icetruck Killer and the Bay Harbor Butcher – but this most recent one has shaken the community to its core. A new serial killer, who some call Kira, has appeared out of nowhere, striking his victims at random and without mercy. The nature of his killings – without warning or reason, and seemingly magical in execution - has caused the normally unfazed Miamians to panic.

A town meeting has been called in, and all citizens have been asked to come in to talk about the recent rash of murders. The Miami Metro Police Department knows that this can only bring out the worst sort of vigilantism, and no one knows better than their bloody spatter analyst, Dexter Morgan (L). He knows that Kira is too clever to be caught, and even if he were, the lack of evidence would most likely lead to his release. But not if Dexter can get to him first.

Dexter has made it his mission to bring down Kira, but the Code of Harry, his adoptive father who taught him his killing ways, prevents him from just randomly killing everyone until he finds and kills Kira. Given the threat of Kira, Dexter will allow himself a little leeway, but if he kills too many innocents, he will be just as bad as Kira. Hopefully, even if he doesn't kill Kira, he manages to kill someone just as guilty.

Miami doesn't know that the Bay Harbor Butcher is still alive, and still on the case. They also don't know that the Icetruck Killer is still around as well, and that the woman who set an entire apartment block ablaze is also on the loose. A gloom seems to settle over the normally sunny seaside city, and no one knows - will justice prevail, or will the city fall into chaos?

Classifications

Innocent: You are always innocent until you kill someone, even if you have attempted and failed. Being innocent affects what happens to others when they attempt to kill you, but ONLY at the time when it occurs. If you are innocent in turn 3, and later you kill someone in turn 5, you are not considered guilty until turn 5 if someone had attempted to kill you in turn 3.

Guilty: If you have killed someone, you are guilty. Only Kira is considered guilty from the first turn.

Roles

Kira
Every turn, Kira can kill anyone he likes. The limitations for each kill are described in the other role descriptions. If Kira is killed on or before the third turn, he will have a randomly-chosen successor. If Kira is killed after the third turn, he is dead, although the game may still continue on if there is a Serial Killer loose. At any time, Kira can choose to drop the Deathnote and give it to another person (Kira chooses who it is given to), who will retain their original role as well as the ability to kill with the Deathnote. No one will know the Deathnote has been passed on, and this person will not be aware of Kira’s identity. If the Deathnote is given to L, however, L wins. If the original Kira dies, the Deathnote cannot be used to kill. If Kira gives the Murderer the Deathnote, they are upgraded to Serial Killer, even if Kira later takes it away. Kira can take back the Deathnote at any time without any consequence, but while he does not have it, he is treated as an innocent citizen.

Dexter Morgan (L)
Every turn, L has a chance to choose someone. If L chooses someone, they will most assuredly die no matter who they are – in a very Dexter-like fashion. Every time L kills an innocent person, he incurs a guilty token. If L kills three innocents, he becomes his own worst enemy, and Kira wins. L CAN kill some roles without earning tokens: Kira (win for L), Murderer, Mayor and Scientist IF AND ONLY IF those roles have killed others. Police Chief and Detective are still considered innocent even if they kill the Spy.

If L knows the role of the Protector and the mob is attempting to kill the Protector, L may sacrifice himself to save the Protector IF AND ONLY IF there are only two other players remaining alive, one of which is Kira. If this happens, the remaining player will become so moved by L’s sacrifice that they will help the Protector strike down Kira no matter what their role is. If the remaining role has the option to kill, then they may choose to kill the Protector, and if it succeeds, they win the game. If they don't, they lose. If they choose to let her live, or can't kill her, they both win.

Angelo Batista (Detective)
Every turn, you have a chance to investigate someone. If it is either L or Kira, I will tell you who they are, and they will also be notified that the Detective has found them out. If it is the Police Chief, you will have a 50% chance of finding out their role. If you don’t, or if the person belongs to any other role, you will learn nothing. On the chance the Police Chief tries to arrest you, you will have the option to expose yourself to the Police Chief, and she will learn your role as you in turn will learn hers. If the Spy attempts to spy on you, you will have the option to kill the Spy. If you do, the Spy will know that you are either the Detective or the Police Chief and you will know who the Spy was. If you don’t, the Spy will receive a failed messaging.

If the Detective has exposed himself to the Police Chief, then they may ally themselves and win the game by having the Police Chief arrest both L and Kira at the same time.

Maria LaGuerta (Police Chief)
Every turn, the Police Chief can arrest two people. Arresting people prevents their abilities and votes, as well as protects them from any killer – including the mob – with the exception of Kira. If Kira is arrested, Kira can still kill from jail. You have a 30% chance of learning the role of one of the people you arrest, and you cannot choose which one (although if you arrest only one person, then you will definitely have a 30% chance to learn their role). If you arrest Kira or L, you will obtain false or no information. If you attempt to arrest the Detective, the Detective will have the option to flash his badge at you. If he does, then you will both be notified of each other’s roles. You may then continue to arrest him (to protect him), or you may let him go with no one else the wiser that you attempted.

Debra Morgan (Spy)
Every turn, you may investigate someone. If you do, you have a 50% chance to learn their role. If you find out the role of Kira, Kira will have a 25% chance of killing you, and if he does, your role will be exposed. If you find out the role of L, you will have the option to reveal yourself to L, and in exchange you will be immune from all other killers that turn with the exception of Kira. If you spy on the Police Chief or Detective, they may choose to kill you.

Vince Masuka (Scientist)
You start with a 10% chance to kill someone and to revive someone. Each round, you will be able to put in a point (10%) into either specializations. You may attempt to kill OR revive someone each round. If you revive one of L’s victims, they will forget the events before their death (that is, they won’t know who L is), but you will have the option to hypnotize them to remember L’s face. If they refuse to cooperate, you may kill them, and then you will learn their former role. If they work with you, you learn who L is, and they will learn your role. You may also choose to revive them without forcing them to tell you anything, which will remove one guilty token from L’s count if that person was innocent. If you choose to kill someone, there is a 10% chance that you may randomly kill someone else, whether or not your original attempt succeeds. Every time you kill an innocent, you gain a guilty token. If you gain three guilty tokens, L will be told your role. After turn 3, if you happen to kill L, Kira wins or if you happen to kill Kira, you win.

Rita Bennet (Protector)
If L kills you, he will gain two guilty tokens instead of one. If you protect someone who ends up being L’s victim, you will know who L is and L will know who you are. No one will die, and the victim will not be the wiser. If you protect L under any condition, you will definitely die, you will know who L is and L will have one guilty token removed from his count. If you protect someone who ends up being Kira’s victim, you will die, and you will learn the role of Kira’s victim. If you protect someone from the mob, you have a 50% chance of dying and another 50% chance your role will be exposed, but if you die you will learn a random role that is not Kira or L. If you protect someone from any other killer’s role, you will have a 50% chance of dying, but you will learn the name/role of the killer in either case.

If the Mayor and the Protector end up saving the same person from the mob, then nobody dies and nobody’s role is exposed, although the Protector will still learn a random role. If the Police Chief arrests the person before the mob can get to them, it will be a wasted turn for the Mayor and Protector.

It is possible for the Protector role to die when protecting someone without their name being exposed – as in, that person would still be considered “alive” to everyone else.

Brian Moser (Murderer/Serial Killer)
Every turn, the Murderer has a 35% chance of killing someone. If the Murderer succeeds in killing someone, they gain a guilty token. Upon earning two guilty tokens, the Murderer is upgraded to Serial Killer, and now has a 60% chance of killing someone. If the Murderer kills Kira or the Protector on any turn, or is given the Deathnote by Kira, he is automatically upgraded to Serial Killer. If he kills Kira after turn 3, he becomes L’s new nemesis. If the Serial Killer kills L after turn 3, he will automatically get another 50% chance to kill Kira. If he does, or if Kira is already dead, he wins the game. If he doesn’t, Kira kills him and wins the game. However, if the Murderer (NOT Serial Killer) kills L after turn 3, Kira automatically wins.

Mayor
Every turn, the Mayor has the ability to save someone from the mob, or a 30% chance to kill someone. In either case, the Mayor has a 25% chance to learn their role, and if saving, a 25% to lose a guilty token they may have gained previously. Upon saving someone for the third time, the Mayor will be turned upon by the mob. If this happens, there is a 50% chance that the Police Chief will save the Mayor from the mob – this is a forced action for the PC – and in doing so will wound the Police Chief, making her unable to use her abilities the next turn. If the Mayor lives to save someone a fourth time, the mob will kill without impunity. The Mayor may also interrogate one person in the entirety of the game. The Mayor will always learn the role of that person without that person being any wiser. If the Mayor inadvertently saves Kira from the mob, and anyone but Kira or the mob attempts to kill the Mayor in the next turn, they instead will die. If the Mayor kills Kira after turn 3, and does not have any guilty tokens, then the Mayor wins. Otherwise, L wins.

Lila West (Arsonist)
Every turn, the Arsonist can sabotage the actions of ANY other role (only one per turn). The Arsonist does not need to know the name of the role in order to sabotage that role, and can sabotage the name of a person without knowing their role. If the Arsonist sabotages Kira, however, Kira will know who the Arsonist is. If the Arsonist sabotages L from killing a guilty person, then there is a 30% chance that L may kill the Arsonist instead without incurring a guilty token. If the Arsonist sabotages L from killing an innocent person, L will know that the person was innocent, but will still get a guilty token. Upon sabotaging any other role in the act of committing murder, the Arsonist has a 30% chance of learning the role of the killer. The Arsonist can win the game if they sabotage any role who is using that turn to win.

Billionaire
While you are just an average citizen, due to your power and prestige, your vote counts for three instead of one. Every turn, you have the opportunity to bribe the Mayor if you so choose and have a 60% chance of being successful. After you have bribed the Mayor three times, their name is revealed to you. Bribing carries a risk, of course - there is a 20% chance that the Police Chief will be alerted to your bribe attempts (regardless if successful), and if she is then she will be told your role. Once you have bribed the Mayor three times, they will be obligated to spare you from the mob even at the forfeit of their own life. If you choose to ally with the Mayor (by revealing yourself to them), you can give up your extra votes for the remainder of the game in order to give the Mayor a second interrogation. If the Mayor wins, you win.

There WILL be random successors if someone kills L and/or Kira on or before turn 3.

Possible Winners:

Kira - If L gains three guilty tokens or if L dies after turn 3.

L – If Kira unknowingly gives L the Deathnote. If L kills Kira or Kira dies by some other role that cannot win in doing so. If L is aligned with the Protector, the Scientist and/or the Spy (through game mechanics) and he wins, then they win as well.

Police Chief/Detective – If they are exposed to each others' roles (through game mechanics), and the Police Chief arrests both L and Kira, the two of them may present them to the mob and thus win the game. If L has any guilty tokens, he will be killed along with Kira by the mob. Both the PC and Detective must be alive in order to win. If the PC arrests both L and Kira without the Detective being alive, then standard arrest rules apply.

Protector - If L sacrifices himself to save the Protector in the last round, and if the last remaining role chooses to spare (or fails to kill) the Protector, then the Protector wins.

Scientist – If he kills Kira after turn 3.

Serial Killer – If he kills L after turn 3, and in that same turn kills Kira on his second chance, he wins. Otherwise, Kira kills him and wins. If Murderer/Serial Killer kills Kira after turn 3, then Serial Killer becomes L’s new nemesis and wins if L dies.

Mayor – If the Mayor kills Kira after turn 3, and has NOT gained any guilty tokens, then the Mayor wins.

Arsonist – Always moves “first” in the turn. If another role has won the game in that turn, but Arsonist sabotages them, then the Arsonist wins the game.

It's funny, I gotten into Deathnote around the same time I got into Dexter, (as did my mother) and we compared the shows together, saying how Dexter is sorta like Light at first. (till other events happened to make Light do some crazy things) Kinda weird you made Dexter's sister the spy though. o.o And you gave rita a role! XD

I do have to say that's a lot of roles and rules to take in though... might be a tad confusing...

I thought it'd be better to have Batista be the Detective, since he's always been one (where Debra was at first just a cop), and since Detective may work with the PC, who is definitely LaGuerta. I guess I could have made Quinn from Season 3 the Spy, or that new chick from Internal Services, but I'd rather use Deb, so I had to give her a position. Plus, I think she's Scooby-Do enough for the role.

And of course I had to give Rita a role. biggrin.gif
