I post, though I doubt I'll ever check for a reply (might, though).

Back in 2004-5ish my sister was playing some silly browser game and asked if I wanted to join. Happy for the opportunity to spend time with my sis I jumped right in. The game was called Nationstates, NS for short. Was a very simple browser-based-text-choice-game.. you know.. it wasn't even too much of a game come to think of it, but I won't bore you with the details..

So, a short while after signing up I was asked by some region (a "guild" in any other mmo) to join them. And I did. And I met some cool people, one of which I kept talking to long after. We played online chess and backgamon, and we invaded other regions and we talked about politics. I must've been like, 12 or 13. I could barely comprehend English.

After that came Runescape, MU Online, Forsaken MU, Maplestory, Gunz, Enemy Territory, Counter Strike, UT, Halo (not in that order) and a bunch of other games I could not remember to save my life - all of that over a period of 6 years.
I spent most of my time in online forums, met people from across the world, argued, cursed, photoshopped, learned, raided Habbo, watched gore, learned a lot of new things, grew up , toughened up, felt, loved, hated, caused love, caused hate..

It's weird when I think about it, so much I've gained from places like this, yet I remember so little for some reason.. it just all feels nostalgic..

In the end, I don't really have a point.. this is not supposed to be sad, or moving, or informative, this is just me sort of saying thanks to the internet communities I've been a member of for the adventures I've been on and all the people I've met.

I guess i'm saying thanks to the internet.

I chose this forum to do it, because for some reason firefox remembered my login info + got here by complete accident + it's empty and dead, so at most someone will see this post in a few months (years) which will add to the magic of it, plus it means I won't have to check this out tomorrow

Bye for now.

"You have reached your quota of positive votes for the day"

LOL. Like I've ever used "liking" or +rep on mapletowers :P

I just wanted to reply and say that this is exactly my feeling about places like this. So much time whiled away in the company of good people, even if we'll (in all likelyhood) never be in the same place physically at the same time. In my mind that doesn't cheapen or lessen the nostalgia at all, and in point of fact, actually makes our discussion and communities all the more remarkable.

So thank you, tehFluffz, for thanking the internet. The internet thanks you back.

I'm so happy to have been apart of this community.  You guys are awesome, always.

If anyone does want to actually try revitalizing MT, I would support it 100% on the programming backend (and of course financially), but I cannot be the active admin I once was. :(

Ah, I never would've met the woman I want to marry if it hadn't been for meandering across internet forums before I got my own connection.

Whether that's a GOOD thing or not these days is another matter, but still... These days I have friends all over the world, it's crazy. People find it easy to write off everyone you meet online as liars and cheats, but no... there's quite a few I would like to meet up with, should I ever have the means (maybe i'll win the lottery one day, who knows).

I also found that i've learned more in the years since I got the internet than I ever did (or wanted to) in school. It's really a fantastic invention. Hard to think something like that could take off and make the world so small from the individual perspective.

Well, I'm rather late to this party, but that was well put Fluffz. :]

I don't think I'd be half the person I am today without the people I've met online, and I'm really glad that everyone feels the same way. We all shared a lot of laughs and stories here, and as time passes on, I think more and more people are starting to realize that our interactions online have little difference to the ones we have in real life. I think the permanence of these interactions is shown that even years after MT's activity died down, we still have the occasional people checking in :P
