I post, though I doubt I'll ever check for a reply (might, though).
Back in 2004-5ish my sister was playing some silly browser game and asked if I wanted to join. Happy for the opportunity to spend time with my sis I jumped right in. The game was called Nationstates, NS for short. Was a very simple browser-based-text-choice-game.. you know.. it wasn't even too much of a game come to think of it, but I won't bore you with the details..
So, a short while after signing up I was asked by some region (a "guild" in any other mmo) to join them. And I did. And I met some cool people, one of which I kept talking to long after. We played online chess and backgamon, and we invaded other regions and we talked about politics. I must've been like, 12 or 13. I could barely comprehend English.
After that came Runescape, MU Online, Forsaken MU, Maplestory, Gunz, Enemy Territory, Counter Strike, UT, Halo (not in that order) and a bunch of other games I could not remember to save my life - all of that over a period of 6 years.
I spent most of my time in online forums, met people from across the world, argued, cursed, photoshopped, learned, raided Habbo, watched gore, learned a lot of new things, grew up , toughened up, felt, loved, hated, caused love, caused hate..
It's weird when I think about it, so much I've gained from places like this, yet I remember so little for some reason.. it just all feels nostalgic..
In the end, I don't really have a point.. this is not supposed to be sad, or moving, or informative, this is just me sort of saying thanks to the internet communities I've been a member of for the adventures I've been on and all the people I've met.
I guess i'm saying thanks to the internet.
I chose this forum to do it, because for some reason firefox remembered my login info + got here by complete accident + it's empty and dead, so at most someone will see this post in a few months (years) which will add to the magic of it, plus it means I won't have to check this out tomorrow
Bye for now.
