Not that any spambots will be reading this but whatever. I, among with a lot of veteran MapleTowers members, have become exasperated with the large spambot problem that seems to have been plaguing this forum as of late. As I only have limited power over the forum (and limited contact with Lindsay) I have decided to enact the following changes immediately. (For any staff, you may share your opinion in the staff forum if you want. For now I want to throw something out there and hopefully this will change a bit depending on staff and/or user input.) - Any new account whose posts are worded much like a spambot, regardless of whether or not the account has advertisements in their sig or profile, will be permanently banned.
- I will start to ban the Class B IP range (ex. 127.0.*.*) of any account banned for being a spambot
- All threads created in this forum specifically (The MT Digest) will be closed upon creation until further notice. I apologize that it has to work this way for our veteran members but, it has to do until I can come up with a more reasonable solution
- All accounts banned as spambots will be reported to the spammer database at Stop Forum Spam.
Once again, I'm sorry that it has to come to this. I especially understand that banning such a large class of IP ranges could have effect on innocent users. If by any chance any current or potential (non-spammy) user is affected by any IP ban I place then contact me immediately. (If you don't have me on any IMs or don't know my e-mail then PM me on Sleepywood, even.) If any other members have any ideas feel free to PM me.

It's that time of year again, where lights of red and green are strung up, people are clogging up shopping malls (or if you live here... that comes the day after) trying to get done what they left until the last minute, and children are dreaming of what awaits them under the Christmas tree. Back home, the holiday bustle just adds to the chaos all over the city with the Olympics coming to town in February. Over here it's kinda snuck up on me; The last month has saw my family move into a new house and flying down to southern California for a week of ATVing, and so coming back from this we found ourselves on the brink of what's to come tomorrow.
MapleTowers has definitely seen better years. The forum has come across a few stumbling blocks to come over; The semi-abolishment of the clan system and Suz and Lindsay's extended absence into the real world are just a couple of the things that has started to bring the forum into a state of low activity, though there are other things that have slowed the forum down as well. I'm still left to wonder if there's anything that I can and should do in order to help the forum get back on its feet, and I have my ideas and incentives; I just dunno how and if I should implement them. Needless to say there might be a couple of things that I might try; I just have to be able to afford them.
The holiday season means that 2009 is coming to an end, and I'm hoping that 2010 will begin to bring a new era to us and that we can eventually become the community we once were. If activity were to pick up then there might be a few things in order, but that we'll all have to wait and see. Thanks for sticking in so far and I hope that we can make MapleTowers the forum we all remember.
And finally, on behalf of everyone here I'd like to wish all our members a merry Christmas and a happy new year. May your holidays be one of joy and happiness.

Thank you to the community so far for keeping your eyes out for the adbots that have been seen so far.
For you people that already haven't seen, we seem to be in the midst of a spambot "attack." Over the past 24 hours we have had some eight or nine spambot registrations, all for the same thing. I am currently taking care of each one as they happen while trying to find a way to get rid of them all with my limited power and resources.
Unfortunately with the forum software we are running, we can't do any better as far as anti-spam measures go. IP.Board 3 does have it's own anti-spam registration system but as we are a highly customized forum, an upgrade isn't very possible right now.
Please remain vigilant and on the lookout for these dirty bots; If you find one, PM an admin or an smod immediately.

QUOTE Special Edit: Because I'm a total waste of space *let's the Beran's slap me around* I realised that this post was very Windia orientated and that has to change. From the leveling thread three names seem to stand out in particular: Theshinji is ACTUALLY leveling his paladin! Whoop! Whoop! Of course he groans about it, but in fairness... well... one word: Paladin. Keep going Brian! Xeonhart is leveling like a pro! Keep it up Tim! And finally, FlameChocobo is getting closer to 4th job by the second! Other people have leveled to in other worlds- apologies for no particular mentions- there are just too many of you! Keep it up guys! For a supposedly active forum we haven't had a very recent news post, have we? Let's change that! I thought it would be quite nice to announce that since we started the whole Pirate thing together waaaay back when it was released, a few people have managed to get themselves to 4th Job. I'd like to congratulate Loose, Taliant, JoeTang and Masamune for being TOP NOTCH pirates. I'm wondering whether I'll be able to give them some sort of Pirate MapleTowers award but we'll see on Loose's time schedule! Loose of course made 4th job quite a while ago! A spiffying buccaneer he has become! Taliant leveled to L120 today (24/06/09). Unfortunately we couldn't find a Griffy for him but he's practically a Corsair! Masamune is a leveling freak and has started a second gunner since an unfortunate accident left him with no choice but to start again. JoeTang needs to get off his lazy arse and start leveling again because Corsair is not far off! I really think these four individuals deserve a hefty pat on the back for legitimate and hardcore training! I think a special mention should go out to various others like Lugin who is still chugging along with his soon-to-be Paladin every now and then. Also Joni, a first class BM, has leveled. I'd say the same about Mazz but he's been a lazy bottom recently! Who else? Other names: OneSound, Hayley etc... well, there are lots of people eh? So! A congratulatory topic has to be made! CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE! Keep up the Mapling! *blows tongue at the quitters!*

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MAPLETOWERS!This day, two years ago, MapleTowers officially opened a small beta group, and later on April 24th, fully opened our doors to new members. Two years later, we are approaching 2000 registered members - and I must say, I've never been prouder to be apart of such a wonderful community. (thanks Kitten!) There were some people who did not think the site would last this long - but I will say, I always knew it would. I love you guys. I'll let the other admins edit in their well wishes. QUOTE (Moofey) I certainly haven't been here since the beginning; Yes, I was still playing MS religiously when MT was starting up and it was getting the crap smega'd out of it around gMS (Hopefully no one was banned for that. ) but I never really paid attention. Usually when I see something advertised so heavy I don't really get interested, but what really piqued my interest in MT was the number or ex-Maplenoobs members that had popped up on the site. When I realized just how many of you had joined up I was in. At the time Sleepywood had become quite the drama hole and I needed a break (Whereas now I could just banhammer them. ) so it was quite the relief when I came around to the community. I almost didn't even need to create an intro thread because just about everyone already knew me. (It was in that thread that Suz wondered how the heck everyone knew me. I was fairly quickly sorted into the Ruby clan in the next app session and helped lead the team to its first ever Towers championship in my first season with them. Then along came the revival of Maplenoobs by Ben, Maplenoobs.com's real owner at the time, followed by the integration of its community into ours, and it was then that I was also brought in to mod the community as well. Unfortunately that didn't last long, as Benji had pulled a Becky and both fell off the face of the earth. Unfortunately, Maplenoobs is no longer what it has been. After "taking control" of the site I've just let it sit and run itself, knowing that the days where hackers completely dominated gMS were gone and, even though there are still "hacker infestations" from time to time the site isn't much of anything anymore. Eventually the mod became smod, and I had to "retire" from Ruby until we all decided that all the clans needed to benefit from an activity boost for a season. Moderating MT is super duper easy compared to SW, where I usually end up dropping the banhammer 5 or 6 times a day at least. You guys are such a super community that I really don't have to do anything; I'd have to look for it. The last year and a but of smodding eventually led up to going from moderating MT to administrating MT, which is a blast when I have you guys for a community. An admin's job is always great when he doesn't have to ban people. (Don't give me a reason to banhammer anyone, because if you haven't noticed my recent change in avatar, it would probably be a super-bloody affair. ) Mapletowers wouldn't be the forum it is without you guys! Happy Birthday, MT!
