Ah, I was talking about this with high school friends for about a week.
It's gonna be completely mind blowing. And yes, Lina. Remakes.
Just the names themselves make me giddy. Think I might get HeartGold cause I already played the Silver and Crystal versions. Although Lugia > Ho-Oh

I'm importing Soul Silver because the inexplicable 6 month wait for what is essentially the American game is pointless.

It always makes me lol how Nintendo holds back releases to do it across Europe, then England gets American English anyway >_>

Off topic, but I had an interesting conversation on Basil about Pokemon in the middle of a 9/11 thread (I made all the serious comments I had to in respect of the people who died and other mass murders and then moved along with the topic)

Some guy: @Above: Arceus. He's freaking GOD in Pokémon incarnation, how can you possibly beat that?
Me (quoting him): Now I'm gonna say something completely debatable: God doesn't exist. Especially since Nintendo of America REFUSES to release him.
Him: Whoa, I just thought of something...! Arceus exists in Pokémon, but Nintendo will not legitamately release him. However, he can be obtained by hacking. So Arceus does not exist ingame naturally, but he may be created by the player. In other words, he's not really there, but he is created by people. Could this be an announcement of Nintendo's belief that God is only a device created by humans and not a real, existing being? Ooohh, conspiracy! <.<
Me: So that's why extremist Christian groups have filed lawsuits on Pokemon.

Yeah... it was an odd moment, having such an epiphany but it was brilliant and it actually makes sense.

By the way, I'm starting off with Cyndaquil. Feraligatr's speed and Sp Def stats are way too much like Linoone to make me want to use him. And Chikorita... no. Just no. Venusaur is a better sponge/annoyer, Sceptile is a way better Special Sweeper and Torterra is a decent tank (lol4x iceweak). Even though Cyndaquil got freaking nerfed with Thunderpunch being physical now and being unable to learn Energy Ball to counter Swamperts.
Actually, he could probably be a Sunnybeamer with Sunny Day supporting both Solar Beam and boosting FT/Lave Plume/Eruption but I don't see it happening easily since it takes one turn of setup and especially with Eruption, it would take wayyyy too late (Eruption works best at 100% HP), although I can put Substitute in favor of a Ice HP. Or better yet, run FT and Grass HP... I dunno I'll check Smogon. Plus, 100 base speed is something that even neutrally speed based Infernapes can outrun, not to mention half of the OU tiers.

Kotone starts off with a Marill. You don't have to fight her that early on, I don't think (not that far yet), but I was afraid she would rape my Cyndaquil with it so I opted for Totodile because it's MANLY when it gets to third job evolves.

How early on? If it's before you get pokeballs then pretty much gg. If it's after, well... just throw pidgeys at her.

I've gotten to the part after the first gym leader, heading towards the cave down south. I don't know what it is in English anymore. Haven't had to fight her. Maybe she doesn't even show up. Seems weird if she doesn't though, because of all the time they put into adding her. She's the one who teaches you how to use Pokeballs.

Current party is Totodile, Pidgey, Mareep, Geodude, Ghastly, and Mysterious Egg. Need a last slot and any good replacements that I can find soon would be nice I suppose.

IIRC, that cave you're talking about has the basement with the King's Rock after you beat Team Rocket, right?

What moveset?

Togekiss evolves via Shiny Stone.
Make sure its ability is Serene Grace, and with a nature that boosts either Speed, Special Defense or Special Attack.
It can be a sweeper, annoyer or supporter.

Basic sweeper's set is Nasty Plot, Roost, Aura Sphere and Air Slash (AS works really well with Serene Grace as it raises the flinch rate from 30% to 60%). You can always substitute in Flamethrower, Tri Attack (you get STAB), Shadow Ball or Hyper Beam (once more, STAB) in place of Nasty Plot and Roost if you want pure attacking, but I prefer the original set because it ensures powerup and survivability.

Basic annoyer set (status inflictions) is Body Slam/Thunder Wave (I prefer TW because Togekiss' attack stat is NOT that great), Air Slash, Roost, Nasty Plot/Substitute/Aura Sphere (I prefer Substitute because it can be combined with Roost to ensure higher survival and more annoying turns for the opponent).

Support is basically Encore/Baton Pass. Encore, Wish (that's where the support comes in)/Roost (not as viable for this one but it does ensure self-survival), Air Slash, Aura Sphere/Body Slam/Thunder Wave (all three can be substituted with a filler move).

Baton Pass set: Nasty Plot/Substitute, Air Slash/Encore, Baton Pass, Roost. Key here is Baton Passing after you set up Nasty Plot. This set works absolutely wickedly on special sweeper teams but some prediction is needed. Use Encore when the opponent uses a stat boosting move like Swords Dance, and set up, then BP to a sweeper like Gengar and watch the opposition just fall.

There are more details from team-building sites, but this is what I've seen so far. I personally have two Togekisses, one an annoyer (also called Paraflincher) and a BP. They work well although I'm more impartial towards physical attackers.

Oh, and if you can pick up a Scyther, DO it. Scizor is absolutely beast.
